Donald Trump, the Republican candidate in the US presidential elections, has won in the states of Mississippi (6), North Dakota (3), South Dakota (3), Wyoming (3), Texas (40), Nebraska (5), and Louisiana (8) for a total of 173 electoral votes.
The Democratic candidate Kamala Harris secured 76 votes in the Electoral College after winning the presidential race in New Jersey (14 votes), Delaware (3 votes), Illinois (19 votes), Massachusetts (11 votes), Vermont (3 votes), New Hampshire (4 votes), Maryland (11 votes), Rhode Island (4 votes), and Connecticut (7 votes).
Trump's candidacy represents an exceptional case in the history of American elections, facing major indictments, primarily the accusation of defrauding the United States by preventing Congress from certifying President Joe Biden's victory, and depriving voters of their right to fair elections.
Republican candidate Donald Trump faces similar charges in Fulton County, Georgia, where he was accused of extortion, a charge typically used to target members of organized crime, with a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
This case, pending until the state appellate court rules on the attorney general's role, stems from a phone call on January 2, 2021, in which Trump urged Georgia's Chief Elections Officer, Brad Raffensperger, to find enough votes to overturn his narrow loss in the state, which Raffensperger refused to do.
Trump enjoys high approval ratings among devout Christians in the United States, with polls indicating that support from white evangelicals for the Republican candidate remains strong as it was in the 2016 and 2020 elections, driven by Trump's views and positions on issues like homosexuality and abortion.
Although the Public Religion Research Institute in the United States indicates that white evangelicals comprise no more than 15% of the US population, they are one of the voter blocs eager to participate in elections, representing nearly 25% of actual voters.
According to polls, in the last two presidential elections, about 80% of these white evangelicals voted in favor of Trump, which has led the Republican candidate to clearly bet on that voting bloc in the 2024 elections.
During his campaign, Trump made sure to hold a campaign rally with several religious leaders in North Carolina, where he spoke about his assassination attempt, stating that "his faith took on new meanings" after that incident. He continued, "I believe the Lord saved me for a specific purpose."
