The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing increasing American pressure to take sensitive political steps, despite his previous refusals. The newspaper explained that the close coordination between the Israeli government and the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, which initially seemed like complete harmony, has gradually turned into a situation of political imposition on Tel Aviv.

The newspaper noted that Trump imposed on Netanyahu, through his envoy to the Middle East, Steve Whitcomb, the approval of the first phase of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, a step that Netanyahu had previously refused. The U.S. administration also pushed him to engage in negotiations to demarcate maritime borders with Lebanon, even though Netanyahu had described the agreement signed by his predecessor Yair Lapid as a "betrayal" and vowed to annul it.

According to the report, Netanyahu's approval of a truce with Hezbollah reinforced the impression that the Israeli government is subject to the American agenda, as these steps did not occur in isolation from the Trump era but rather represent an extension of a clear American policy aimed at imposing a new political reality in the region.

The newspaper mentioned that the American influence on the Israeli decision sparked a sharp internal debate, as the "Yesh Atid" party launched an attack on Netanyahu, accusing him of yielding to American dictates and negotiating on sensitive issues such as land and the release of prisoners. The party stated in a statement that "Netanyahu, who previously accused Lapid's government of surrendering to Hezbollah, now finds himself forced to negotiate and concede under American pressure."

In contrast, the Likud party defended Netanyahu's position, asserting that he has not conceded any sovereign lands, but rather succeeded in maintaining the Israeli military presence at five strategic points within Lebanese territory, which has contributed to enhancing the security of the northern settlements.

Yedioth Ahronoth concluded its report by pointing out that the state of internal political tension in Israel reflects the complexities of the relationship with Washington, as it seems that American support for Israel has become linked to Tel Aviv's willingness to comply with the American agenda on issues of ceasefire and border demarcation.
