Toronto police said a man was stabbed to death during a fight at the Jane subway station yesterday, Tuesday.
According to Sergeant Jason Davis, officers were initially called to the station.
Witnesses told investigators that the fight began on a bus that had just arrived at Jane and spread to the bus area.
Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and police are still trying to reach his relatives late Tuesday night.
Davis said a man and a woman were seen fleeing the station heading west on Bloor Street, and he had no further details on the couple at that time.
Anyone with information or relevant video is urged to contact the police or leave anonymous tips with Crime Stoppers.
In a statement released Tuesday, TTC CEO Rick Leary said the transit agency "was shocked and saddened" to learn of the stabbing incident.
Leary added, "Our thoughts are with the victim's family and loved ones during this difficult time."
He also stated that TTC will assist the police in any way possible, including providing all video evidence.
He emphasized that the safety of customers and employees "is of utmost importance" at TTC and urged customers with information to contact the police.
