The Los Angeles police have reportedly suppressed students from the University of California who were calling for an end to the Israeli war on Gaza and arrested a number of them.

The "Los Angeles Times" reported that unnamed officials said that "a pro-Palestinian demonstration at the University of California ended with the police arresting dozens and ordering them not to return to the campus for at least two weeks."

The newspaper added: "The confrontation came after demonstrators marched around the campus chanting the names of some who lost their lives in Gaza," according to what was reported by the Palestinian news agency "Sama."

The demonstrators colored the Shapiro fountain water red, as shown in aerial footage from local television stations.

For several hours, the demonstration was mostly peaceful, but the situation later turned chaotic, as the Los Angeles police and private security guards engaged in skirmishes and confrontations with the demonstrators.

Associate Professor Graeme Blair, a member of the Justice in Palestine faculty, stated that one student was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries caused by a rubber bullet, which he said was fired when students were near "Dodd Hall."

Blair criticized the authorities, stating that students were following dispersal orders throughout the evening.

The University of California police stated in a statement that around 25 demonstrators were arrested on suspicion of deliberately disrupting university operations.

They added that orders would be issued for the arrested students to stay away from the University of California for 14 days.

The statement claimed that "the group tampered with fire safety equipment, stripped wires from electrical equipment, and caused other damage on campus."

The police had previously ordered demonstrators to disperse at least twice, and the crowd quickly dismantled tents and barricades and moved to different locations on campus.

As the demonstrators marched, one of them read aloud the names of Palestinians who were martyred in the Israeli war on Gaza, and the demonstrators chanted after each name: "They will not die in vain... the occupation will be liberated."

Some demonstrators placed flowers next to a coffin painted with the Palestinian flag beside model figures of bloodied corpses, while a helicopter flew overhead.
