The latest opinion poll conducted by the “Nanos Research” organization and published today, Thursday, shows that the Canadian Liberal Party continues to lead the Conservative Party by 5.6 percentage points, less than a week before the scheduled federal elections on April 28.
According to the results of the poll on the thirty-second day of the election campaign:
Liberal Party: 44.1%
Conservative Party: 38.5%
New Democratic Party (NDP): 7.7%
Bloc Québécois (BQ): 5.4%
Green Party: 3.4%
People’s Party of Canada (PPC): 0.9%
The poll reflects a new decline in support for the New Democratic Party, which has lost temporary gains made after the last election debate, which may weaken its position in a number of competitive ridings, especially in Ontario and British Columbia.
In contrast, the Liberals, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, maintained the lead in voting percentages, supported by the trend of middle-class and urban voters, alongside ongoing concerns among some Canadians about the approach of Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
These figures come amid a record turnout for early voting, with Elections Canada announcing that over 7 million voters cast their ballots during the advance voting period, indicating an increased level of public mobilization in this election cycle.
As the decisive day approaches, competition intensifies in a number of key ridings that could determine the fate of the next government, with widespread anticipation for the final French debate and major parties attempting to rally support among undecided voters.
