Farmers in southern Alberta are suffering significant crop losses due to heavy hailstorms, with at least 200 farmers reporting various risks and damages.
The agricultural directorate in the city indicates that many farmers have lost their crops entirely.
Diana Heather, the agricultural director in Vulcan, mentioned that there are fields where we cannot determine what types of crops were previously produced; the hailstorms erased all traces. Such is the extent of the damage.
A hailstorm passed through the area last weekend, resulting in the destruction of two barns and some agricultural crops, Heather noted.
It is worth mentioning that the Alberta Agricultural Insurance Corporation had stated that at least 200 clients have reported damages so far, and the corporation expects this number to rise, especially since farmers have a 14-day window to report damages to their crops.
