The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Salem Al-Abdullah, made an official visit to friendly Canada.

In this context, the Minister of Foreign Affairs held a bilateral talks session with the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Mélanie Joly, which covered the overall aspects of the close historical relations linking the two friendly countries and the frameworks for enhancing and developing them on various levels, taking the fields of bilateral cooperation to new horizons that serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, in addition to discussing ways to intensify joint coordination and existing cooperation between the two sides on many regional and international issues and exploring ways to continue joint efforts in establishing the foundations of international security and peace. At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Salem Al-Abdullah conveyed the best regards of the leadership, government, and people of Kuwait to Canada’s leadership, government, and people, along with wishes for ongoing growth, prosperity, development, and advancement for Canada and its friendly people. He expressed his deep pride in the close relations between the two friendly countries and the progress and growth achieved in all fields, praising the flourishing and continuous progress witnessed in the bilateral cooperation between Kuwait and Canada on all levels, commending the distinctive achievements of joint cooperation between the two friendly countries in humanitarian and development fields.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs appreciated the prominent role played by Canada and its armed military forces present in Kuwait in maintaining the security and safety of Kuwait and the countries of the region.

For her part, the Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed her country's thanks and gratitude for Kuwait hosting the Canadian armed forces on its territory and for the valued facilitation provided by the Kuwaiti government in this regard. She also expressed her admiration for the high level of cooperation between Kuwait and Canada at all levels and her aspiration to continue the pace of this strong cooperation between the two friendly countries and to elevate it to broader and more comprehensive horizons and dimensions. She praised Kuwait’s wisdom and balanced foreign policy and its efforts to consolidate the pillars of security and peace preservation in the region, expressing appreciation for Kuwait’s earnest efforts and humanitarian projects and its support for development and peoples around the world.

The bilateral talks culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding on establishing a mechanism for bilateral political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development in Canada, reflecting the extent of the two friendly countries' determination to develop and strengthen bilateral relations in all fields and at all levels.
