The Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, today Friday, filed an official complaint against Lebanon to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council, following the military exercises conducted by Hezbollah, in blatant violation of Security Council resolutions 1701 and 1559.
The exercises carried out by the organization in southern Lebanon included scenarios of crossing and infiltrating into Israel, occupying Israeli sites, and kidnapping soldiers. Israel expects and demands that Lebanon control what is happening on its territory and work to prevent terrorist groups from arming themselves and planning and carrying out attacks against Israel.
During the official complaint, Erdan said, "Israel demands the prevention of turning Lebanon into a terrorist base," and he also appealed to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General to strongly condemn Iran and Hezbollah for destabilizing the region, and demanded the Lebanese government renew its commitments to implement Security Council resolutions 1701 and 1559.
The ambassador explained, according to the Hebrew newspaper "Maariv," that "Israel will take all necessary measures to protect its citizens and sovereignty."
