The agreement reached with Hamas differs from previous agreements with Lebanon, as it stipulates that the Israeli army will not be allowed freedom of movement in Gaza from now on. The agreement mandates a cessation of military operations between the two sides immediately upon the commencement of the ceasefire.
According to the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz, the Israeli army has no reservations about halting military operations in northern Gaza according to the agreement, as the Israeli military leadership expresses doubts about the feasibility of current operations in the area amid the heavy losses the army has recently incurred.
The newspaper also clarified that Israel is preparing to gradually withdraw from some areas in Gaza, such as the Netzarim corridor and the Philadelphia crossing, as part of the first phase of the deal.
In another context, the newspaper reported that there are fears that Hamas military leaders Muhammad Deif and Muhammad Sinwar may exploit the waiting period for a response to the agreement to exert further pressure on Israel, which could lead to better terms of the deal in their favor.
