The Iranian Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday the names of 6 candidates for the upcoming presidential elections, none of whom include the former president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who had previously submitted his candidacy papers, according to what the Iranian news agency "Tasnim" reported today, Sunday.
The agency quoted the spokesman for the elections committee in Iran, Mohsen Eslami, stating: "The eligibility of Mostafa Pour Mohammadi, Saeed Jalili, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Ali Reza Zakani, Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi, and Masoud Bezhaskian to run for the Iranian presidential elections of 2024 has been confirmed."
Earlier, the spokesman for the Guardian Council announced the completion of the eligibility examination of the candidates for the Iranian presidential elections scheduled for the end of this month.
Iran is holding early presidential elections following the death of Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash last month, with 80 candidates applying, the majority of whom are current and former officials and deputies.
The official Iranian news agency "IRNA" quoted Haadi Tahan Nazif, the spokesman for the Guardian Council, saying: "After completing the eligibility examination of the candidates for the fourteenth presidential elections in the Guardian Council, a list of the names of candidates whose applications were approved was sent to the Ministry of the Interior."
