U.S. President Joe Biden appeared supportive of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's efforts to establish closer defense relations between the United Kingdom and Europe, describing the UK as the "lynchpin" that connects the two continents across the Atlantic.
The British news agency (PA Media) reported today, Thursday, that the U.S. president held his first face-to-face meeting with Starmer at the White House, where NATO agreed to provide additional support to Ukraine.
For his part, Starmer stated that the visit was an opportunity "to renew commitment to NATO and reaffirm the special relationship."
Biden said: "I see you as the lynchpin that holds the transatlantic alliance together, the closer you get to Europe. We know where you are, and you know where we are."
It is worth noting that Starmer seeks to reach a new ambitious security agreement between the UK and the European Union, aimed at enhancing cooperation and striving for closer defense work with key allies such as France and Germany.
The trip to the White House came less than a week after Starmer's victory in the elections, and during his first appearance at a summit of international leaders.
