Some drivers were forced to leave their cars during the afternoon yesterday, Wednesday, after Montreal was hit by record heavy rains that caused destruction on the roads.
Decarie Boulevard was one of the roads that was partially closed during the rain, turning the highway into a lake, and some drivers challenged the flood and managed to cross while other cars got stuck in the floodwaters, and Highway 40 was closed due to water accumulation," before reopening after several hours.
The other main road affected by the rain was Highway 13 North, which was closed heading north between Hickmore Street and Highway 520, and has since reopened, with drivers reporting they were stuck in traffic for hours due to the road closure.
The Canadian Department of Environment and Climate Change placed the Greater Montreal area under a rain warning yesterday, Wednesday, as the remnants of Hurricane Beril passed over the area, with rainfall amounts expected to reach 70 mm in Southern Quebec through today, Thursday.
Water also flooded the Jean-Talon metro station due to the heavy rains.
Many flights have been delayed today, Thursday, and some have been canceled at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport due to inaccessibility to the airport.
The rain is expected to end by 3 or 4 p.m. today, Thursday.
