The latest developments regarding the Canadian impacts of the global technology outage causing massive disruptions to businesses and services worldwide:

10:10 AM

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported a partial outage in its telephone reporting system, primarily used by small aircraft passengers and boat passengers, which has since been resolved.

The agency clarified that there are currently no affected systems.

Telus Corp. stated that some of its employees are still unable to access the necessary tools and systems to support customers.

It says it is working "with utmost urgency to get our systems operating at full capacity as soon as possible" and apologizes for any inconvenience.

10 AM

WestJet stated that there has been no direct impact on its IT systems or operations, and any flight cancellations on its network were not related to the CrowdStrike outage.

However, the airline anticipates there may be some delays on its flights on Friday due to the impacts felt by the airports it travels to and from. It also says that guests traveling through WestJet or connecting with other airlines may be affected.

The technology outage is not affecting the Honda Indy weekend race in Toronto.

IndyCar spokesperson Kate Davis said they are on schedule and do not expect any issues.

Friday is a practice day, with the race scheduled to take place on Sunday on the street circuit at the exhibition place.

Hamilton General Hospital has reported issues with its IT systems and is working to resolve them.

They describe it as a "developing situation" and say they will keep patients informed about care plans while the hospital remains open.

Meanwhile, Via Rail states it is "not affected in any way" by the global outage.

It says that the Canadian banking system is well protected and that current impacts on banking services will be temporary.

The industry group represents 60 local and foreign banks in Canada.

Trading for the day is expected to begin at 9:30 AM as usual.

It states that it continues to monitor for any potential impacts.

Windsor Police have reported long delays at the Canadian-US border, whether at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel or the Ambassador Bridge, due to a service outage worldwide.

They urge citizens to avoid both areas if possible.

Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport also announced that there may be delays and cancellations of flights, and passengers should contact their airline for specific flight details.

Some companies reported that their operations were unaffected by the technology outage.

Rogers Communications Inc. stated that there were no impacts on its phone and internet networks, nor on its media properties.

Air Canada also confirmed that there is no significant impact on its operations, but the airline is closely monitoring the situation.

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services explained that many of its IT systems are currently affected by the outage.

This includes Meditech, the main information system used for managing patient care and financial information.

The regional health service says it has implemented emergency plans and is focusing on providing emergency care.

The University Health Network in Toronto stated that the power outage is affecting some of its systems.

It claims that clinical activity in its hospitals continues as scheduled.

However, it warns that some patients may experience delays.

Porter Airlines announced it is canceling its flights until noon due to the outage.

Meanwhile, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador states that users of its digital platforms may experience service interruptions and that the province is working with providers to address this issue.
