U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris took advantage of her first fundraising campaign since becoming the potential Democratic nominee for the White House to criticize Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as determined to roll back Americans' freedoms.

Harris traveled to Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on Saturday where she is expected to raise over $1.4 million, her campaign announced, from an audience of hundreds at the Colonial Theatre. This will be over a million dollars more than the original goal set for the event before President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.

She told an enthusiastic group of supporters that she entered the race as a "weak candidate," while expressing confidence that her rising campaign could defeat Trump.

Harris said, "I will fight to move our nation forward," "Donald Trump intends to take our country backward."

She also mocked Trump and his fellow candidate Senator JD Vance for their odd attacks on her and other Democrats. The Vice President seemed to reference a 2021 interview with Vance where he criticized some prominent Democrats without biological children, including Harris, describing them as "childless cat ladies" who have no "direct interest" in America.

Harris stated, "You may have noticed that Donald Trump has resorted to some wild lies about my record and some of what he and his fellow candidate are saying, it’s just totally bizarre." "I mean that’s the box he put himself in, right?"

The fundraiser included musical supporter James Taylor and several heavyweight Democratic figures in the state, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, former Governor Deval Patrick, and Congressman Richie Neal.

Harris received more than $100 million in donations in the first 48 hours after Biden withdrew from the race, a presidential record, and her aides said she continued to fundraise at a steady pace.

Harris said, "This is a people-powered campaign. And we have momentum."

Harris, the former Attorney General of California, also ridiculed Trump over his legal troubles. She pointed out his recent conviction on 34 counts related to business record fraud in New York, and a jury found the former president liable for sexual assault against column writer E. Jean Carroll in 1996, as well as a $25 million settlement paid to attendees at the now-canceled Trump University real estate seminar.

Harris added, "I’ve dealt with people like him my entire professional life," "So in this campaign, and I say this sincerely, I will proudly put my record against his any day."

Harris began her remarks by praising Biden, who chose to end his re-election efforts and endorse Harris last weekend after his campaign collapsed following his disastrous performance in the June 27 debate against Trump.

She described Biden's legacy of accomplishments over the past three and a half years as "unparalleled in modern history."

Trump described Harris as a "crazy left-wing extremist" who wants to defund the police during a keynote speech at a Bitcoin conference in Nashville on Saturday.

He said she is worse than Biden but she might be his second favorite candidate after Biden.

Trump told a crowd of Bitcoin supporters that he would embrace cryptocurrency more than the Biden-Harris administration has and pledged to "replace the economic stagnation of the Biden-Harris era" with an economic boom.

The Vice President told supporters at the Massachusetts fundraiser that her economic agenda would sharply contrast with Trump's, whom she claimed is focused directly on tax cuts for wealthy Americans and improving corporate bottom lines.

Harris stated, "Building the middle class will be the defining goal of my presidency." She added, "Let’s not mistake this, this campaign is not just about us facing Donald Trump. Our campaign has always been about two very different visions for our nation."
