The Curling Group, led by COO Nic Sulsky, has purchased the ownership and operations of the Grand Slam of Curling from Rogers Sportsnet. The network will remain the exclusive Canadian broadcasting rights holder.

Sulsky said in a press statement, "The ability to continue this legacy alongside Sportsnet is critical to what we will begin trying to build together. It is vital to the curling community, both athletes and fans alike."

He confirmed that the Curling Group's intentions are sincere. "We will give the fan and curler a level of confidence that we will do it with the right spirit and motivation in mind. We love the game, the players, and the fans who have made this sport what it is today."

The new project includes some big names associated with it, including two-time Olympic champion John Morris and Olympic champion Jennifer Jones, who will retire at the end of this season from the four-person game.

Former NFL star Jared Allen is also part of the group. They will all be part of helping to shape the future of the Grand Slam tournaments.

Jones said, "We want the growth of the game to be very successful. We want to be successful. I think curlers will embrace this and be very excited about the opportunities." "Our sport has a lot of potential and it is very exciting to be part of this and we hope to have a big impact."

Since 2012, Sportsnet has been the owner and operator of the Slams. Prize money of up to two million dollars has been awarded each season, and pay equity has been at the heart of the tour’s events from the early days. It has also been a place where new rules have been developed, including the five-rock free guard zone and the no-tick rule.

Rob Corte, Vice President of Production at Sportsnet, said that remaining the official broadcaster of the Grand Slam of Curling was non-negotiable, adding that it had been a key property in their programming plans for years.

Corte said, "It has been a wonderful ownership for us, and what we are really excited about is what the future will be." "Just to be clear, the Grand Slam of Curling was not for sale but during the past period through talks with Nic, and listening to his vision, we began to see what the future of the Grand Slam of Curling could be and what it is." It was something Sportsnet wanted to be a part of.

He confirmed this partnership will help grow the sport while allowing Sportsnet to do what it does best – providing fans with world-class broadcasting and the most in-depth curling coverage.

Sulsky said the athlete’s voice will be an important part of how the Grand Slam tournaments are shaped, which is why curling legends such as Morris and Jones were brought in from the beginning.

"We need to provide a platform for players to take their place alongside the rest of the international elite athletes because they belong there. They are an amazing, engaging, fun, and funny group of people. It is time to shine a spotlight on them," said Sulsky.

"We will explode the loud game worldwide, and I couldn’t be more excited to start this journey alongside the two greatest legends this sport has ever known."
