Pro-Palestinian students gathered for a demonstration at universities across the United Kingdom following violent protests on college campuses in the United States, according to the British news agency (PA Media).

Students in Leeds, Newcastle, and Bristol set up tents outside university buildings on Wednesday in protest against the war in Gaza.

Students at the University of Bristol stated that they were organizing the demonstration "in protest against the university's complicity in the genocide being carried out by Israel against the Palestinians," while the organization "Newcastle for Apartheid Outside the Campus" said that its protest was "to highlight the institution's investment strategy and its complicity in the war crimes committed by the Israeli army in Gaza and the West Bank."

Student activists organized separate marches and demonstrations elsewhere.

Groups are demanding their universities divest from Israel in response to its military operation in the Gaza Strip.

The demonstrations come after violent clashes on college campuses across the United States, most notably at Columbia University in New York.

Violence also erupted at the University of California, and more than a thousand protesters were arrested across the United States.
