Canadian lawmakers agreed to hold hearings on how to grant major airlines exemptions from the sanctions imposed by the country on Russian titanium.
Recently, reports spread about allowing Airbus, Bombardier, and Safran to avoid the sanctions imposed on the Russian company VSMPO - AVISMA.
Canada is the first Western government to ban Russian supplies of the strategic metal as part of a package marking the second anniversary of the Russian war in Ukraine.
For its part, Canadian Airbus stated in a statement that it is aware of the Canadian government's sanctions on VSMPO - AVISMA, and it has received the necessary permission to secure Airbus operations.
The 12-member foreign affairs committee in the elected House of Commons indicated that it would summon the country's Foreign Minister and other unspecified witnesses after a proposal to bring representatives from Bombardier and Airbus to testify failed.
It is worth noting that the hearings are part of a study of the concessions granted for the use of Russian titanium in the Canadian aviation industry. Last week, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly defended the exemption decisions, stating that jobs in Canada were the decisive factor.
