Captain Adam Lowry and Kyle Connor each scored two goals to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 7-6 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday in the first game of the first-round playoff series; this was the first time the two teams met in the NHL playoffs.

A crowd of 15,225 fans dressed in white had plenty to cheer about during the "whiteout" parties inside and outside of Canada Life Centre.

Mark Scheifele scored a goal and had two assists, while Josh Morrissey scored a goal and an assist, and Vladislav Namestnikov also scored.

Brenden Dillon, Gabriel Vilardi, and Nino Niederreiter each added a pair of assists, while Connor picked up one assist.

Connor Hellebuyck made 40 saves for the Jets, who extended their winning streak to nine games.

Cal Macar scored a goal and had two assists for Colorado, while Nathan MacKinnon and Artturi Lehkonen each scored a goal and an assist. Valeri Nichushkin, Miles Wood, and Casey Mittelstadt also scored. Mikko Rantanen contributed two assists.

The Avalanche entered the series after losing all three regular-season games against Winnipeg.

Alexander Georgiev stopped 16 of the 23 shots he faced with Colorado, which is trying to replicate its 2022 Stanley Cup run. He was supported by Arvid Holm in place of Justus Annunen, who was not in the morning skate.

The first period ended tied 3-3, with both teams combining to score three goals in 66 seconds.

With a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal, Nichushkin fired a shot high over Hellebuyck’s shoulder at 6:10 to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Morrissey tied it less than two minutes later when his shot went through traffic and into Georgiev’s net, then both teams combined to score four goals in just under four minutes.

Lowry scored the only goal of the second period, while Morrissey tied it less than two minutes later when his shot went through traffic and into Georgiev’s net, then both teams combined to score four goals in just under four minutes.

Lowry scored the only goal of the second period.

Lowry's second goal of the game had to be reviewed when the puck hit one post, went across to the other post, then slid along the goal line and hit the post again before bouncing back. It was ruled a goal at 3:31.

Connor and Lehkonen exchanged power-play goals to make it 6-4 at 6:29, but Connor added his second just over two minutes later. Macar then scored unassisted on the man advantage to make it 7-5 at 12:24.

Mittelstadt netted a goal with 30 seconds left in the game.

Mark Scheifele's goal in the first period was his 20th in the playoffs, coming in his 38th game.

It is noteworthy that only three active players have reached this milestone in fewer games; Alex Ovechkin did it in 26 games, Jake Guentzel in 32 games, and Connor McDavid in 36 games.
