An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale struck the town of "Qaleh Qazi" in Hormozgan province, southern Iran, this Thursday evening.

The seismology center at the Geophysical Institute of Tehran University reported that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers at a latitude of 27.61 degrees north and a longitude of 56.28 degrees east, according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, the general director of the Crisis Management Department in Hormozgan province, stated that the earthquake did not result in any casualties or property damage and that the situation in the earthquake area is normal.

Iran is frequently subjected to earthquakes due to its location in a collision zone between the tectonic plates directly beneath the Earth's crust, with the deadliest being a 7.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the northwest of the country in 1990, resulting in 37,000 deaths and 100,000 injuries.
