Alphonso Davies, Bayern Munich player competing in the German first division football league, was selected on Tuesday in the Canada squad preparing to face Trinidad and Tobago in a crucial match to qualify for the Copa América tournament, despite continuing to recover from a shoe strike to his face and ligament strain that affected his appearances with the German league champion recently.

Davies' recovery could be an important factor for Canada to qualify for Copa América for the first time by winning against Trinidad and Tobago in the match scheduled for March 23 in Frisco, Texas.

The winning team’s reward will be a seat in Group A of Copa América, which includes Argentina, the world number one and World Cup champion, Peru, and Chile during the tournament to be held from June 20 to July 14.
The interim Canada coach Mauro Biello's squad is the youngest team since 2019, including 22 players out of 23 under thirty years old.

After recovering from a knee ligament strain five weeks ago, Davies (23 years old) returned to Bayern's lineup during the win over Mainz in the league, but left after only 15 minutes after receiving a shoe intervention to his face and went to a dentist to repair the damages.

Biello said, "When I look at the list, there are many players in good physical condition and doing well with their clubs. I am very excited about the selections.

"I want hungry players who bring this desire to represent their country. For me, it is about reviving passion and bringing players in good condition."
