The Palestinian Authority announced today, Thursday, the formation of a new government while facing international pressure to carry out internal reforms.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas revealed the formation of the new government by a presidential decree issued on Thursday.
There are no well-known names among the members of the new Palestinian government.
The Palestinian president had previously tasked Mohammad Mustafa, his longtime adviser, with forming a new government earlier this month.
Mustafa, an independent political economist educated in the United States, pledged to form a technocratic government and establish an independent trust fund to help rebuild Gaza.
The Palestinian Authority administers parts of the West Bank occupied by Israel.
The United States had called for reforming the Palestinian Authority to be ready to govern the Gaza Strip after the war ends, before the eventual establishment of a Palestinian state.
Israel rejects the idea, saying it intends to maintain open security control over the Gaza Strip.
