The groups for the men's and women's basketball tournaments that will participate in the Paris Olympics this summer have been determined.

The draw was held in the city of Mies, Switzerland, where former Australian star Penny Taylor and former NBA star Carmelo Anthony presented the groups on Tuesday.

The seventh-ranked Canadian men's team will be in Group 1 alongside fifth-ranked Australia and the winners of the Olympic qualifiers in Spain and the winners of the Olympic qualifiers in Greece.

In Greece, Croatia, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Greece, New Zealand, and Slovenia will compete for a place in the tournament. In Spain, the teams will be Angola, the Bahamas, Finland, Lebanon, Poland, and Spain.

This is Canada's first Olympic appearance since 2000. The Canadian men qualified for the Olympics after their quarterfinal victory over Spain at the World Cup in September.

Canada continued its success by winning its first ever medal, the bronze, with a 127-118 victory over the United States in the third place match in Manila.

Group 2 will include France, Germany, Japan, and the winner of the Olympic qualifiers in Latvia. The teams looking to leave Latvia with an Olympic berth are Brazil, Cameroon, Georgia, Latvia, Montenegro, and the Philippines.

Group 3 consists of Serbia, South Sudan, the winner of the Olympic qualifiers in Puerto Rico, and the reigning Olympic champions, the United States. The teams that will play in Puerto Rico are Bahrain, Ivory Coast, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, and Puerto Rico.

All four Olympic qualifying tournaments will take place from July 2 to July 7.

The men's Olympic tournament is scheduled to be held from July 27 to August 10.

The fifth-ranked Canadian women's team is in Group 2 alongside third-ranked Australia, seventh-ranked France, and twelfth-ranked Nigeria.

Group 1 consists of Serbia, Spain, China, and Puerto Rico. Group 3 consists of Germany, the reigning Olympic champions the United States, Japan, and Belgium.

The women's venue where all four Olympic qualifying tournaments took place in February has been appointed, with Canada qualifying from one in Hungary. Canada won 1-2 in the four-team tournament but received assistance when Spain defeated Hungary in the final match of the competition.

The women's Olympic tournament is scheduled to be held from July 28 to August 11.

The group stages of both tournaments will be held in the French city of Lille.

The top two teams from each group and the best two third-placed teams qualify for the finals, which will be held in Paris.

There will be a draw after the group stage to determine the quarterfinal matchups, with the final stage played in a knockout format.
