The Canadian Parliament building, specifically the eastern wing on Parliament Hill in the capital Ottawa, was closed on Saturday after reports of a man barricading himself inside the building. Ottawa Police reported that they received a notification about the incident shortly before 3 PM and arrived at the scene to handle the situation. The eastern wing was evacuated, and no known injuries have been reported so far.

The Parliamentary Protective Service issued an emergency alert, urging those present to “seek shelter in the nearest room, close all doors, and hide.” Individuals not in the area were advised to stay away until further notice. It is noted that the offices of Senators and their staff are located in the eastern wing, and with the upcoming federal election in Canada, Parliament has been dissolved, resulting in reduced activity in the area.

The site witnessed a heavy police presence, with access to the area closed, including for those with permits.

On another note, some reports indicated the presence of a specialized bomb squad as part of the security operation. The police also closed part of Wellington Street in front of Parliament.
