The “CBC” television channel reported that at least 135 people suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, while waiting for the electricity to return, according to “Russia Today.”
The channel quoted the provincial health directorate as saying that electricity was cut off to users after an ice storm hit the area last Wednesday.
According to the television channel, 135 people were taken to medical facilities due to carbon monoxide gas poisoning.
The channel confirms that this toxic gas appeared in the homes of the affected citizens when they tried to use coal for heating as well as cooking food using gas grills inside the homes.
The channel pointed out that the ice storm hit the provinces of Quebec and Ontario, causing the power outage to one million homes and buildings.
The authorities expect to be able to repair the power transmission lines and restore electricity to all consumers by next Monday.
