As the countdown to the election day set for April 28 approaches, Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre announced today, Thursday, his intention to take strict measures against the spread of unlawful encampments in Canadian cities, considering that “Canada needs a clear system that restores order to our streets and provides real solutions for the homeless.”
This was stated during remarks made by Poilievre at one of his campaign events, where he emphasized that a Conservative government under his leadership will restore law and order, and will provide support programs that address the root causes of homelessness such as addiction and mental health, but it “will not tolerate the chaos seen in some major urban centers,” as he put it.
Meanwhile, New Democratic Party leader Jagmeet Singh and Liberal Party leader Mark Carney are expected to deliver separate speeches today as part of their campaigns, amid increasing competition between the main parties less than a week before voting.
Singh is expected to focus on issues of social justice, affordable housing, and health guarantees, while Carney will continue to defend his economic vision to face the impacts of American tariffs and President Donald Trump's policies, asserting that only the Liberals have “the experience and realism to tackle global challenges.”
It is worth noting that recent polls show the Liberal Party slightly ahead of the Conservatives, at a time when some key electoral districts are still classified as “critical,” making the next few days crucial in determining voter trends.
