The mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, called on the French government to send additional security forces after a weapons warehouse was looted.
Payan said, "The scenes of looting and violence in Marseille are unacceptable. I strongly condemn these acts of vandalism and call on the state to send additional forces to enforce the law immediately."
Media earlier circulated news about protesters looting a weapons store in the center of Marseille, where they seized hunting rifles.
BFM television channel reported today, Saturday, citing security sources, that the French police arrested 80 people in Marseille.
