The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the roadmap for the 2026 World Cup matches on Sunday, revealing that Canada and Mexico will each host 13 matches while the United States will host the remaining 78 matches.

With 45 countries yet to qualify for the men's football tournament, the full picture will not emerge until the tournament draw in early December 2025.

The opening is scheduled to take place in Canada at BMO Field in Toronto on June 12.

The seeded Americans begin their journey on the same day at SoFi Stadium in Englewood, California.

Canada will organize 10 matches in the opening round, equally divided between Toronto and Vancouver, which will also host Canada’s other opening round matches on June 18 and 24 at B.C. Place Stadium.

Both Toronto and Vancouver will host a knockout round match in the Round of 32, while Vancouver will also host a match in the Round of 16.

Vancouver is likely to get one more match than Toronto because it offers a larger venue, as the British Columbia Stadium will seat 54,000 while BMO Field will seat 45,000 once additional seats are added.

Mexico will organize matches on June 11 and 24 in Mexico City, with the June 18 match being held in Guadalajara, only 460 kilometers away.

The 48 teams are set to be divided into 12 groups in the group stage, with the group winner and runner-up, along with the eight best third-placed teams, qualifying for the Round of 32.

If Canada wins its group, it will remain in Vancouver for its Round of 32 match, and if successful, will also remain there for the Round of 16.

The quarterfinal matches will be held in Boston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and Miami, with the semifinals in Atlanta and Dallas.

The final match is scheduled for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with the bronze medal match at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Mexico will become the first country to host the men's World Cup for the third time after hosting in 1970 and 1986, and the United States hosted the tournament in 1994.

Canada has never hosted the men's World Cup finals despite attempting to host the 1986 edition after Colombia, the original candidate, said it could not organize the tournament for financial reasons.
