The WhatsApp instant messaging platform is testing the addition of new settings in the app dedicated to the Windows system to allow users to control the input and output devices for audio and video within the app.

According to what was observed in the latest beta version of the WhatsApp application on Windows, there will be a new section in the settings called "Video and Audio," which provides several options to choose the camera, microphone, and speakers that the user prefers to rely on while running the app on Windows devices.

These options will be useful when needing to choose between built-in and external devices and switch between them, as it is currently difficult to adjust these settings except through the system settings themselves in a relatively complex process, and changing these settings applies to the entire system.

WhatsApp seeks to facilitate the control process of input and output devices for audio and video and also test them by displaying a camera preview, testing the microphone operation, and playing sound through the speakers.

Users may sometimes resort to relying on external devices such as webcams or high-quality microphones to improve the experience of calls and online meetings, and the new options will help adjust the required settings and test the devices before starting calls.

The new settings appeared in the beta version of the WhatsApp app available for download via the Microsoft Store, and they are expected to be available later to all users through upcoming updates for the final stable version of the app, and the same settings are also expected to be provided in the app available on Mac devices.

Meta – the owner of the WhatsApp platform – redesigned the desktop application for Windows and Mac systems during 2023, and significantly improved the experience of voice and video calls.
