The U.S. Senate has approved a government funding bill worth $1.2 trillion early Saturday morning to avoid a partial government shutdown.

Chuck Schumer, the majority leader in the U.S. Senate, said: "It was not easy... Our persistence was worth all the effort," according to Bloomberg News today.

The bill, which was approved by 74 members while 24 members rejected it, will be referred to U.S. President Joe Biden for approval.

The White House stated in a statement, after reaching the agreement, that the president will sign the bill today, Saturday.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the spending package to fund the U.S. government yesterday, Friday, hours before the deadline to avoid a looming government shutdown.

The package does not include any additional military aid to Ukraine, which is under attack from Russia.

Republicans in the House have so far blocked aid to Ukraine.

A government shutdown in the United States means the suspension of operations of certain federal agencies and offices, and millions of U.S. government employees not receiving their salaries.
