The Quebec police were able to apprehend a suspect near a high school.
The Quebec provincial police received a report from Thérèse-Martin high school at around 8:45 a.m., after reports of a man carrying something resembling a weapon near the school.
The school was also closed to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The police interrogated the suspect, a 32-year-old man, after about 15 minutes, and arrested him.
According to Nicolas Scholtus, a police spokesperson, the man may eventually face charges, but their nature has not yet been determined.
Scholtus stated that the man was arrested near the school and not inside it, and the lockdown was lifted later, allowing school activities to resume.
A support team was published to assist students and staff who may need it, and the police continue their investigations.
In a message to the students' parents, the principal confirmed that the situation is now over and that everyone is safe.
