A senior official at the China Manned Space Agency announced in a press conference today, Wednesday, that the astronauts of the "Shenzhou-18" spacecraft, scheduled for launch tomorrow, will carry out numerous tests and experiments related to space science and applications in orbit, in addition to several spacewalks during their stay at the Chinese space station, which will last for six months.
According to Xinhua News Agency, the manned spacecraft "Shenzhou-18" is set to launch at 08:59 PM tomorrow, Thursday (Beijing time), from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China.
Lin Shichiang, Deputy Director of the China Manned Space Agency, stated that the crew members will utilize scientific experiment cabinets and external payloads to conduct more than 90 experiments in the fields of fundamental physics in microgravity, space materials science, space life science, space medicine, and space technology.
During the mission, the country's first project for ecological aquatic research in orbit will be executed. The project, which will use zebrafish and aquatic golden algae, aims to establish a self-recycling aquatic ecosystem in orbit to achieve breakthroughs in vertebrate breeding in space, according to Lin.
Lin mentioned that the first in-orbit study of stem cells in the world regarding plant stem limbs is scheduled to be conducted, to reveal the evolutionary adaptation mechanism of plants to gravity and provide theoretical support for farming in space.
