A senior official in the U.S. administration stated that the United States does not expect an agreement between Israel and Hamas in the near future.
The official told reporters following a phone call between U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, that "the deal will not be made before everything is agreed upon."
He added, "Therefore, I do not think we will announce it in the coming days," noting that the positive response from Hamas to the latest proposal indicates the possibility of "breaking the deadlock."
He pointed out that the deal currently fully aligns with President Biden's proposal and the UN Security Council's resolution, but there needs to be an agreement on how to implement it, considering that carrying out this process will not be easy.
This comes against the backdrop of the Israeli delegation heading to Qatar to negotiate a ceasefire deal in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of hostages, after the Israeli Prime Minister's office confirmed on Wednesday that it had received Hamas's updated proposal regarding the deal.
Israeli officials have expressed a positive stance on the latest proposal, considering it opens the door for progress in the negotiations.
