Today, the member states of the European Union agreed to impose a new package of sanctions on Russia due to the military operation in Ukraine, which has entered its third year.
The fourteenth package of European Union sanctions against Russia includes a ban on reloading Russian liquefied natural gas in the EU for shipment to third countries.
These measures prevent ports, such as Zeebrugge in Belgium, from shipping Russian liquefied natural gas to countries outside the EU, after a transition period of nine months.
The new sanctions also provide the bloc with more tools to take strict action against evasion of sanctions, targeting 116 individuals and entities for "involvement in operations against Ukraine."
With this package, the European Union has taken restrictive measures against Russian liquefied natural gas for the first time.
The European Union imposes a wide range of restrictions on Russia, including trade, finance, energy, industry, technology, transport, dual-use goods, luxury items, as well as gold and diamonds, in condemnation of the military operation launched by Moscow in Ukraine in 2022.
