The Canadian Statistics Authority announced that the number of Millennials is now larger than the Baby Boomer generation in the country, ending the dominance of the post-World War II generation that lasted 65 years as the largest population group.
The federal agency noted the change in its population estimates on July 1, 2023, divided by age and gender, which was released today Wednesday.
The average age in Canada decreased slightly between July 1, 2022, and July 1, 2023, for the first time since 1958.
However, the Canadian Statistics Authority says that the number and percentage of people aged 65 and over continued to rise.
Meanwhile, the federal agency clarified that the share of Millennials and Generation Z is increasing, while the opposite is true for Baby Boomers and Generation X.
These trends have helped increase the percentage of the working-age population, which rose in 2023 after steadily declining over the past fifteen years.
