The crew of the German rescue ship "Humanity1" rescued 77 migrants who were on boats in the Mediterranean Sea.

The relief organization "SOS Humanity," which owns the ship, announced at its headquarters in the German capital Berlin late Saturday evening that there were many minors among the rescued individuals.

The association stated that the rescue operation was subject to serious interventions and threats by the Libyan Coast Guard, noting that the ship "Humanity1" is now on its way to the port of the city of Bari, located in southern Italy, to disembark these people on land.

According to "SOS Humanity" information, a civilian reconnaissance plane informed the ship of the presence of three boats facing a crisis in the open sea. The association said that the Libyan Coast Guard arrived at the scene during the attempt to transfer people aboard fast rescue boats, and the association pointed to the occurrence of gunfire which led to chaotic events at that time, where people jumped into the water and it is believed that one person drowned.

These details could not be independently verified.

The association expressed its shock after the incident and said it had informed all relevant authorities about what happened, stating in a statement that "threatening the crew members of rescue ships and exposing the lives of people in need of protection to danger constitutes a flagrant violation of international law
