The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) confirms the first positive case of COVID-19 after a week of students returning to the classroom.
Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS) said in a press release that the confirmed positive case is one of the staff at the Hamilton Family and Child Centre before and after school program at Templemead Elementary School.

It is essential not to disclose personal health information and to respect the privacy of all involved," and HWDSB is working with public health officials to facilitate case tracking and communication.
Darry Hall, Executive Director of the Family and Child Care Centres in Hamilton, said in the statement: "Our priority is the health and safety of children and staff in our before and after school program." "We are working in partnership with the school board to ensure we continue to follow all public health protocols and communicate information with families regarding the confirmed COVID-19 case."
HPHS said it will contact positive cases and work with the school board to identify any additional contacts requiring follow-up and speak with them directly.
According to the statement, HWDSB is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting any areas where individuals with symptoms are present.
Elementary and secondary students at HWDSB began returning to the classroom on September 8, with a staggered start.
