The head of the Kuwaiti Cultural Office in Canada, Dr. Ismail Taqi, revealed a loss of 30 percent of medical seats in various Canadian universities due to their circumstances of not having mid-year admissions, thus not providing seats for Kuwaiti students, pointing out that the academic system in Canadian universities starts at the beginning of the academic year in the current September.

Taqi stated in a press statement to «Al-Jarida», «There are only four universities through which we approved the mid-year admission plan, so we can provide study seats for students who will be accepted under the 2020/2021 external scholarship plan», noting that the total seats obtained exceeded 50.

Regarding visas in Canada, Taqi explained that the results of student acceptance applying to the scholarship plan will be in next October, while the study starts at the beginning of next January, and there is enough time for students to work on completing visa procedures, although they previously took from 15 to 20 days during the previous period.

Taqi said, «Due to the Corona procedures and evacuation operations that took place and students returning, the visa issuance process may take a long time, because some students' visas expired when they returned to Kuwait and they may need up to three weeks to obtain them again».

Taqi emphasized that the attaché does not encourage traditional majors that continue to admit students every academic year, pointing out «We look forward to introducing new study majors in Canada for the next year, represented by new medical majors such as laboratory technician, nursing, and aerospace engineering».
