Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his deep sorrow over the incident involving Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter, stating that Turkey is in full contact with Iranian authorities and is ready to provide any necessary support.
Erdoğan said in a post on the social media platform X: “I convey my best wishes to our neighbor, friend, and brother, the people and government of Iran, and I hope to receive good news from Mr. Raisi and his accompanying delegation as soon as possible.”
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also expressed his deep concern over the news of the Iranian President's plane crash, after bidding farewell to him earlier in the day.
Aliyev stated: "Today, after my friendly farewell to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, we felt deep concern due to the news of the emergency landing of the helicopter carrying the large delegation in Iran."
He continued: "Our prayers are now with President Ebrahim Raisi and his accompanying delegation; the Republic of Azerbaijan, as a neighboring, friendly, and brotherly country, is ready to provide any requested assistance."
Raisi was in Azerbaijan earlier on Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev; this dam is the third built by the two countries on the Aras River.
The Iranian Tasnim news agency reported that a helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi was involved in an incident.
The Iranian state television announced that the helicopter carrying the Iranian president made an emergency landing without further details.
Raisi was traveling to East Azerbaijan province in Iran.
The state television described the incident area as being near the city of Jolfa, located at the border with Azerbaijan, about 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital Tehran.
Iranian media reported that a fleet of drones and Red Crescent teams were sent to the site of the Iranian president's helicopter.
In a related context, Saudi Arabia expressed its "grave concern" over the disappearance of the plane carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and offered assistance in the response.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry, a longtime rival of Iran, stated: “We affirm the Kingdom's support for the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran in these difficult circumstances and its readiness to provide any help needed by the Iranian authorities.”
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Qatar expressed its "deep concern" regarding the helicopter carrying the Iranian president and the foreign minister and offered "to provide all forms of support in the search."
The statement added that the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Majid Al-Ansari, expressed “Qatar's wishes for the safety of the president, the foreign minister, and their companions.”
