The "WorldCargo" website, which deals with global shipping news, reported that the Port of Eilat has declared bankruptcy due to a lack of commercial activity, as a result of attacks by the Yemeni Houthi group on Israeli ships and those linked to Israel in the Red Sea.
The port's CEO, Gideon Gilbert, told the Economic Affairs Committee in the Knesset last Sunday that the port had not seen any activity or revenue for eight months, according to the site.
The site indicated that the port has been affected by Houthi attacks, which have significantly impacted trade movements for Israel.
It continued that Houthi operations in the Red Sea have led to an 85% decrease in shipping traffic, prompting the port to seek financial assistance from the Israeli government.
In solidarity with Gaza, which is facing a destructive Israeli war, the Houthis are targeting Israeli or related cargo ships in the Red Sea, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean with missiles and drones, according to the Anadolu Agency.
Since January 12, a coalition led by the United States has been conducting air strikes that it claims target Houthi positions in various areas of Yemen in response to their maritime attacks, which has been met with retaliation from the group from time to time.
With the intervention of Washington and London and the escalation of tensions in January, the Houthi group announced that it now considers all American and British ships as part of its military targets.
