Canada is witnessing a unique event today that only happens once in a while, and the weather forecasts indicate that the cities along the path of the solar eclipse today, Monday, will experience clouds that may obstruct the once-in-a-lifetime celestial event.
The Canadian Environmental Agency's forecasts show that currently no cities in southern or eastern Ontario will be cloud-free on April 8.
Forecasts for cities in eastern Ontario such as Ottawa, Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall currently show a mix of sun and clouds.
Although the forecasts show cloud cover, conditions can change quickly and are often difficult to predict.
The Canadian Ministry of Environment originally predicted complete cloud cover in the Niagara area and cities surrounding the shores of Lake Erie, but later updated the forecasts to show a mix of sun and clouds.
The forecasts appear more positive as the eclipse moves into southern Quebec, where Montreal is expected to experience clear skies
Rain is not expected in the cities along the path of the eclipse.
For his part, David Phillips, senior climate scientist at Environment Canada, said: "The interesting thing is that you will actually be able to feel the temperature drop
during the eclipse."
Cities such as Niagara Falls and Kingston are expecting hundreds of thousands of visitors during the eclipse, which is expected to move across Ontario starting Monday afternoon, then to Quebec and the Maritimes before exiting continental North America on the coast of Newfoundland at 5:16 p.m.
