Thanked the countries that voted in favor of Palestine gaining full membership*
The Palestinian presidency condemned, this evening Thursday, in the strongest terms, the use of the United States of America of the veto in the United Nations Security Council to prevent the State of Palestine from gaining full membership in the United Nations.
The Palestinian presidency confirmed that the American veto is neither fair nor ethical nor justified, and it challenges the will of the international community, which strongly supports the State of Palestine's right to gain full membership in the United Nations, as the majority of the world's countries recognize a Palestinian state since 2012 when the United Nations General Assembly voted to upgrade Palestine's status in the United Nations to that of a observer state.
The presidency emphasized that this aggressive American policy toward Palestine and its people and rights represents a blatant aggression against international law, encourages the continuation of the Israeli genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, and pushes the region closer to the abyss, amid the ongoing Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine and the continuation of aggressive policies and war crimes that are carried out with the sponsorship and support of the United States, which has persistently used the veto against the rights of our people.
The presidency affirmed that this aggressive American veto reveals the contradictions in American policy, which claims on one hand to support a two-state solution, while it prevents the international body from implementing this solution through its repeated use of the veto in the Security Council against Palestine and its legitimate rights.
The presidency added that achieving peace, security, and stability in our region and the world depends on the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions and the end of the Israeli occupation of the land of the State of Palestine, and recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem.
The Palestinian presidency thanked the member states that voted in favor of the State of Palestine gaining full membership in the United Nations, indicating that this international vote in favor of the Palestinian people's right is evidence of the world's unified stand behind the values of right, justice, freedom, and peace represented by the Palestinian cause, and against the ongoing crimes of occupation against our people, land, and sacred sites.
