The body of a child under five years old was recovered yesterday, Sunday, from a lake in western Quebec after authorities described it as a boating incident.

Quebec provincial police have released few details about the tragic incident but say that only one boat was involved.

The local police were called to the scene at around 6:15 PM, where the incident took place in the Baskatong Reservoir, located in the Upper Laurentians region.

Provincial police Sergeant Eve Brosseau Jobin said divers and marine patrols were called in to locate the missing victim.

Police stated that the child's body was discovered overnight and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A major crimes unit from the provincial police, along with accident reconstruction teams, was sent to the scene to determine what happened to the child.
