Kaiden Primeau saved 41 shots, and the Montreal Canadiens team defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-0 on Tuesday evening at the Bell Centre.

 Brendan Gallagher, Yura Slafkovsky, and Joshua Roy all scored within the first six minutes for Montreal (25-30-10), which jumped to a strong lead and did not look back to break a two-game losing streak.

Primeau also recorded his second shutout of his career with the performance.

Elvis Merzlikins allowed three goals on four shots for Columbus (22-33-10) before receiving the hook.  Daniel Tarsov stopped all 19 shots for the rest of the way.

Also, Montreal launched the attack early and scored just 21 seconds into the game.

 Gallagher found himself alone in front of the net before redirecting a pass from Jake Evans to the top corner.

 The Canadiens took only three minutes to add another, this time on the power play.

 Slafkovsky fired a one-timer pass into Merzlikins’ net from the right faceoff dot after a feed from Mike Matheson, and Roy deflected a shot into the net at 5:48 to end Merzlikins’ night.

Columbus responded with 22 shots in that period, but they could not find their way past Primeau.

It is worth mentioning that 24-year-old Primeau - officially the backup goaltender for Montreal after Montreal traded Jake Allen to the New Jersey Devils on Friday - also made a sprawling miraculous glove save to steal a sure goal from Alexander Texier. His brilliant play continued in the second period as the Blue Jackets dominated possession and shots but remained off the scoresheet.

 At the end of the second period and the start of the third, Columbus continued to increase the pressure, spending long stretches in the Montreal zone to no avail.  The Blue Jackets also hit the post on three separate occasions.
