Two explosions occurred near bus stations in Jerusalem during the morning rush hour on Wednesday, killing a Canadian teenager and injuring at least 18, while the Israeli police said they were suspected attacks by Palestinians amid the ongoing conflict between the Palestinians and the occupying state.

The first explosion took place near a crowded bus station on the edge of the city. The second exploded about half an hour later in Ramot, a settlement in the north of the city. Police said one person died from his wounds, while at least three were seriously injured in the explosions.

The victim was identified as Arieh Shishubak, 15 years old, who was heading to a Jewish religious institute when the explosion occurred, according to a notice announcing his death. Shishubak was a Canadian citizen, according to Canada’s ambassador to Israel, Lisa Stadelbauer.

Tensions between Israelis and Palestinians have escalated for months amid Israeli crackdowns and Palestinian insistence on their legitimate right to freedom and independence, alongside Israeli night raids on the occupied West Bank driven by a series of deadly attacks against Israelis that killed 19 people in the spring.

There has been a slight increase in Palestinian attacks in recent weeks.

The two explosions occurred hours after armed Palestinians stormed a hospital in the West Bank and took out an Israeli citizen who was there for treatment following a traffic accident, according to the young man’s father. This incident could increase tensions between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Yedioth Ahronoth reported that, according to preliminary estimates from the Israeli security establishment, the perpetrators of the Jerusalem bombings acted without external guidance or instructions from armed groups and had planned the attack for a long time,

and the executing cell was well acquainted with the area where the bombings took place. Its members are suspected to have scouted the location with the largest number of passengers at the bus station, detonated the first device from a distance, and detonated the second device at the Ramot junction in a similar manner. On the other hand, the White House said, "We condemn the terrorist acts in Jerusalem and have offered Israel all forms of assistance to investigate the recent attack."

On the other hand, the Palestinian Hamas movement announced that it confirms the Palestinian people's right to resist the occupation, which bears full responsibility for the crimes of its army and the terrorism of its settlers.

As for the White House, it responded to the incident this morning by condemning it and offering assistance to Israel, saying,

"We condemn the terrorist acts in Jerusalem and have offered Israel all forms of assistance to investigate the recent attack."

Canada, for its part, condemned the two bombings. Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly tweeted: "Canada strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack in Jerusalem that took the life of a Canadian youth and injured many others."

She added, "My heart is with the victims' families and friends, the Jewish communities, and those affected by this tragic attack."

Clarifying that "Canada stands with the people of Israel."
