A regional police officer was stabbed to death Monday night in Quebec while making an arrest in Louiseville, west of Trois-Rivières, QC.

Quebec police confirmed the identity of the officer as Sergeant Morin Brou, who had been in service for more than 20 years and was assigned to the MRC de Maskinonge.

Another officer was injured during the incident but his life is not in danger.

Brou and his colleague were attempting to arrest a 35-year-old man accused of threats around 8:30 PM, near Saint-Aime Street and Saint-Laurent Ave, according to preliminary information delivered to the Independent Investigation Office in Quebec, the BEI.

While the officers were reading the rights of the alleged perpetrator, the man reportedly grabbed a blade and struck Brou. A police source told CTV News that the weapon was likely a sword, then two other officers fired at the man and killed him.

On the other hand, Johan Boussole, the General Director of SQ for Officers on Monday evening said, "I learned of Sergeant Brou’s death with great sadness."

Adding, "I offer my deepest condolences to her husband, children, family, and colleagues."

Meanwhile, Montreal police have opened a parallel investigation, and the investigation at the scene continued. The Criminal Investigation Office provided no further information regarding the nature of the alleged threats.
