The famous earthquake scientist Naji Ghorour addressed an important message regarding the situation in Istanbul, the second largest city in Turkey, with a population of about 16 million people.

The renowned academic said, in a lengthy tweet on his personal Twitter account last night, that he is addressing politicians hoping they will read it.

An earthquake strikes Istanbul

The expert confirmed that a devastating earthquake will hit Istanbul, and the city must be prepared for this terrifying event, pointing out the importance of relocating most institutions and industrial areas out of the Marmara region.

The earthquake expert also demanded the cessation of investments aimed at attracting more residents to Istanbul, and the acceleration of the migration process and transferring the population from the city to Anatolia encouraged by state institutions.

He also pointed to the necessity of stopping the issuance of building permits, stressing the need to work on repairing the infrastructure and building foundations in Istanbul quickly so that they are earthquake-resistant.

He also emphasized the necessity of inspecting and examining buildings in Istanbul promptly by the state regardless of citizens' requests, demanding that non-earthquake-resistant buildings be modified by the state or demolished and rebuilt.

It is noteworthy that the well-known Turkish expert had previously confirmed, "Istanbul will face devastating earthquakes due to the presence of a main northern branch of the North Anatolian Fault," continuing: "The best solution to reduce the risk of this disaster and the ability to face it lies in transforming it into an earthquake-resistant city."

The man followed by two million people on "Twitter" explained that it is not possible to determine the location and time of the earthquake threatening the city.

Ghorour bases his predictions about the occurrence of a destructive earthquake in Istanbul on the presence of a "gap" that will cause a "major Marmara earthquake with a magnitude reaching about 10 degrees on the Richter scale in some parts of the city, and it will be like two consecutive earthquakes, but it can be considered as four earthquakes at once due to its intensity."

A catastrophic earthquake struck southern Turkey on last February 6, claiming thousands of lives, which sparked a wave of fear among Istanbul’s residents, some of whom called for considering migrating from it, fearing a recurrence of an earthquake similar to the one that occurred in 1999.
