The Toronto police said six people are hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a shooting incident during a robbery at a shopping plaza in the eastern part of the city overnight.

Police were called to the Midland Avenue plaza near the Highway of Heroes around 1:30 AM Tuesday following reports of five suspects breaking into a commercial unit.

Police stated that those inside the commercial units were also robbed.

Paramedics said the injured were transported to the hospital after the shooting ended. One of the victims was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. However, all injuries are not life-threatening.

The police did not mention whether the injured were suspects or victims. The circumstances that led to the shooting are not yet clear.
