Ontario government provides financial support to municipalities affected by turbulent weather events

The Ontario government has provided $5.5 million to small municipalities affected by major weather events in 2022. The funding will support efforts to remove fallen trees and other debris as well as reforestation efforts to prevent other weather-related hazards such as wildfires.

Below are the municipalities that will be supported:

Canton de Drummond / North Elmsley $74,663.00

Municipalité de Mississippi Mills $150,000.00

Municipalité de Carleton Place $150,000.00

Canton de Greater Madawaska $34,143.00

Canton de Central Frontenac $150,000.00

Canton de Lanark Highlands $57,046.34

Canton de North Frontenac $169,093.28

As in 2022, parts of southern and eastern Ontario experienced severe weather phenomena, including a devastating thunderstorm in May and a tornado in July, which caused damage to public roads and forest access roads as well as thousands of hectares of crown and private forests.
