Work in the German transportation network almost completely stopped on the morning of Monday, March 27, 2023, due to a strike decided by the two largest labor unions in the country.
Employees and workers at airports, ports, subway networks, and railways announced a strike and organized massive demonstrations across the country starting from midnight on Monday, Sunday evening.
The unions demand wage increases to help their members bear the high cost of living.
The unions also organized small, scattered marches from time to time over the past weeks in a number of public service sectors, but what is expected from the strike and demonstrations on Monday will be the largest in the country in decades.
The two unions participating in Monday's protests are among the largest unions in Germany, and the biggest in terms of influence and number of members.
