Twenty people were killed and 29 others injured in a bus rollover accident on Monday afternoon in Shaar Al Rabta Pass between the city of Abha and Mahayel Asir Governorate in the southwest of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Okaz newspaper quoted sources saying that the cause of the accident was the bus brakes overheating, then colliding with one of the bridges, overturning, and catching fire. The sources also added that the bus was carrying a number of pilgrims.
Meanwhile, civil defense teams, the Red Crescent, and security authorities attended the accident site, where the area was closed until 10 PM Monday when it was reopened.
The bodies and the injured were transferred to several hospitals in the region.
